We are an inclusive community group for Black, Biracial and Multiracial folks, students, friends and families in the Columbia River Gorge! B.i.G.’s goal is to reduce isolation, especially with the youth, by creating a group for Black and Black biracial youth and their families to connect with each other, form friendships and get support; create social and educational opportunities as identified by the group; facilitate activities for youth to engage with role models that look like them and offer opportunities to build bridges of cross-cultural connection right here in the Columbia River Gorge.
The Columbia Gorge Climate Action Network (CGCAN) educates, organizes and motivates Columbia Gorge activists to reduce and eliminate fossil fuel usage and climate change, at all levels from individual to global. We encourage clean local renewable energy, conservation, community sustainability and resilience throughout our National Scenic Area.
Increasing educational equity by providing new, high-quality books to kids in the Columbia Gorge who need it most. The mission is informed by research showing that books in the home lead to greater educational attainment and skills in adulthood. Books for Kids Columbia Gorge has been positively impacting literacy in the Gorge for more than two decades. And has recently expanded its reach to Wasco, Klickitat, and Skamania Counties.
Columbia River Fellowship for Peace group mission focuses on peace and justice on several levels: self, family, school, workplace, and community. Making the commitment to provide emotional support, share information, promote nonviolent conflict resolution, and act to rid ourselves of the global threat of militarization, CRFP vitalizes the creative potential and work within its members and the community to ensure our survival as a living planet.
Currently we provide a yearly scholarship to Mid-Columbia region high school seniors who have exemplified this dedication. To DONATE please contact Trish at trishlslp@gmail.com.
Welcome Team - Hood River is a collection of local residents who have formed an official sponsor group to welcome a refugee family seeking resettlement in the United States through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). We will be supported by tools and resources from the Welcome Corps as well as ongoing guidance from resettlement experts.
We will guide the family in obtaining housing, looking for work, accessing public services (including public school), and accessing public transportation. This is a fabulous opportunity to share the wonderful culture of Hood River and support a refugee family.
