Mutual Aid
Mutual Aid
ICE is targeting our Latino neighbors in the Gorge. As a result, some kids are afraid to go to school. People are afraid to go to medical appointments, grocery shopping, work and more.
A group of community members is organizing to provide mutual aid and support for the Latino community. People will be able to ask for a ride to an appointment or to get food delivered. This work requires a part-time coordinator to take these requests and connect them with community volunteers who can deliver the food or give a person a ride.
Please support with a monthly or one-time donation.
Apoyo comunitario
Having checked several possibilities to make the program more accessible, the Board of Gorge Ecumenical Ministries (GEM) has decided to end the Emergency Voucher Program which has been available at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Fridays from 12 - 2 in Hood River.
We are grateful for the work that is already happening through the Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) in Oregon and the Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) in Washington. They will provide far greater access for people in need of the services that the Emergency Voucher Program provided.
The money that has been contributed to the Emergency Voucher Program to date will be split between MCCAC (mccac.com) and WAGAP (wagap.org). We encourage you to support one or both of these programs in the future.
